Nextwave, Agents of H.A.T.E. - Warren Ellis, Stuart Immonen I...really shouldn't like this as much as I do.This falls into "Plot? What plot?" domain. (Though it doesn't contain what is usually classified under PWP acronym: porn).I really don't know what appeals to me here. Characters? Snark? Female characters that kick ass? Snarky android that despises humans? Explosions? The fact that I have a strange trenchcoat fetish and everyone on the team is wearing one?...Descendant of British monster-hunting family demolishing samurai robots with a shovel?Yeah, I think there might be something there. And then there is the final boss. Whose identity I'm so not going to spoil, not even under html.Okay, for something more coherent: from what I get, this is a parody. Except unlike your average parody, it doesn't take itself too seriously. I know it sounds paradoxical, but often a parody will try to hard to poke fun at and/or deconstruct the subject it's parodying, it will not be funny anymore or will be so convoluted it's unreadable/unwatchable. This one, on the other hand, is a pure and simple action-packed fun romp with a few jabs at superhero comics tossed in here and there. Main characters are B-listers from Marvel Universe, plus a new character, Captain ☠☠☠☠ (About whose origins I'm not going to utter a single word except that it's probably the best origin story ever and, ironically, the one that makes more sense than more "serious" ones.). I wish there was more.
